Cookie policy

Effective date: [TODO: effective date]. Last updated: October 10, 2026 (draft).

Draft: not legal advice, reviewed by the owner only. Items in square brackets, such as [TODO: ...], are filled in before launch.

1. What we use and why

This policy covers clearlicensed.com and the ClearLicensed app, run by Softvion Technologies LLC. Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. Browser storage (local storage) does a similar job. We use a few of each. The ones the site needs are always on. Analytics and advertising items load only after you press Accept in the cookie notice.

2. Necessary, always on

  • Sign-in: a session token in local storage (sf_token), and a plain cookie flag (sf_auth, value 1, kept up to 14 days) so protected pages open correctly. They are removed when you sign out.
  • Preferences: your light, dark or system theme (sf_theme) and your cookie choice (sf_cookie_consent), kept in local storage until you clear them. A saved link to return to after sign-in is kept briefly.
  • Payment pages: when you pay, you leave our site for Stripe's checkout, which sets its own cookies for security and fraud prevention.

3. Analytics, only if you accept

If we have turned them on, and only after you accept, we may load:

  • Google Analytics 4: counts page views and events such as starting a sign-up.
  • Microsoft Clarity: session recordings and heatmaps that show us where the site is confusing.
  • Where you came from: the ad or link that brought you here (campaign tags, ad click ids, the referring site and your first page), kept in local storage (sf_attribution, up to 90 days) and sent with your sign-up so we know which ads work.
  • Event helpers: a short list of sign-up and payment events waiting to be counted (sf_pending_events, up to 7 days) and the payments already counted, so none is counted twice (sf_tracked_once).

These tools may set their own cookies and receive your IP address and details about your visit. Nothing runs before you accept, and none of them load inside the signed-in app or on invitation links.

4. Advertising, only if you accept

Meta Pixel tells us how well our ads perform and lets us show ads to people who visited our site. Meta receives your visit data, which some US state laws call targeted advertising or sharing. If you decline, it does not load. See the privacy policy for your rights.

On your first visit to a public page, a small notice offers Accept and Decline. The notice only appears when we have turned at least one analytics tool on.

  • Accept: analytics and advertising tools may load, and we remember your choice in this browser.
  • Decline: none of them load, and we remember that too.
  • Until you choose, nothing optional loads.

6. Changing your mind

To change your answer later, clear this site's local storage in your browser and the notice will come back. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though the signed-in app may then not work. Questions: [email protected].
