North Carolina has no standalone state roofing license. Roofing work on projects of $40,000 or more requires a Licensing Board for General Contractors license; S(Roofing) is a Specialty classification (installation, demolition and repair of roofs) per the Board's classification list; a Building/Residential/Unclassified license also covers it. Below $40,000 no state license is required (local permits/codes still apply). Renewal fee depends on limitation: $75 Limited / $100 Intermediate / $125 Unlimited (see GC entries). Classification limits: Limited up to $750,000 per project; Intermediate up to $1.5M; Unlimited no limit. GC license required for projects of $40,000 or more (G.S. 87-1). Each qualifier must verify employment (Quick Verify or own account). Paper applications no longer accepted. Renewal fee: G.S. 87-10(e) sets renewal at no more than $75 for Limited, $100 for Intermediate and $125 for Unlimited licenses; confirm the amount shown in NCCLiC before paying. A credit card convenience fee may apply.
