Notes
Idaho requires registration, not licensure, for general contractors. Fees (effective July 1, 2026): individual or business $120 initial and biennial renewal ($60 annual renewal), reinstatement $40. Registration is required for construction jobs over $2,000 (labor plus materials) unless exempt; contractors licensed in the electrical, plumbing or HVAC trades need not register unless working beyond their license scope. Display the registration number on ads, contracts and permits. Active military may qualify for a fee waiver (Idaho Code 67-2602A). City and county business licenses and permits may also apply. The Contractors Board FAQ still describes annual renewal, which is superseded by the 2025 biennial transition.
