General contractor
Commercial Contractor License - Building / Light Building / Heavy / Highway / Municipal-Utility (regular or restricted) (CLB-GC)
State license · Arkansas Contractors Licensing Board (Arkansas Department of Labor and Licensing)
- Deadline
- Expires at 12:00 midnight on the day before the anniversary of issuance unless the Board designates otherwise (A.C.A. 17-25-307); the date is on the license. Renewal notices are mailed about 60 days before expiry, but failure to receive one does not excuse late renewal. A renewal is timely only if the completed application is received by the expiration date (17 CAR 255-203).
- Renewal cycle
- Every year
- CE hours
- Not required
- Renewal fee
- About $50. Fees change. Check the official site for the exact amount.
- Late fee
- Renewal received before expiration: about $50. Received within 30 days after expiration, or later: about $100 (17 CAR 255-203). The Board renewal page states that any application not complete (renewal, fee and financial information) by the expiration date owes a $50.00 late fee, even when the license has been extended.
- Grace period
- A timely renewal (received by expiration date) lets the licensee keep using the license until the Board's next meeting. Renewals within 30 days after expiration deem the license reinstated pending Board action but do not cover the gap. After 30 days the applicant has no valid license until the Board approves.
- Insurance
- Workers' compensation coverage required if the contractor is required to have it under the Workers' Compensation Law (A.C.A. 17-25-316); proof required at issuance and renewal. No general liability minimum found in CLB statutes/rules. Financial: licensees must show minimum net worth (Building/Heavy/Highway/Municipal-Utility $50,000; Light Building, Mechanical, Electrical $20,000; Specialty $5,000) via compiled/reviewed/audited statement, or file a surety bond in lieu of financial statement (A.C.A. 17-25-304; bond = 10x the required net worth). Projects under $1.5M may use a 'restricted' license with compiled statement.
