- Deadline
- Biennial renewal (26 V.S.A. 5507). OPR licenses renew on a fixed two-year cycle for each profession; the exact expiration date is shown in the OPR online account and on Find a Professional. OPR emails a renewal notice and opens renewal 6 weeks before expiration. An initial registration issued 90 days or less before the profession's renewal date runs through the next full two-year period.
- Renewal cycle
- Every 2 years
- CE hours
- Not required
- Renewal fee
- About $250. Fees change. Check the official site for the exact amount.
- Late fee
- Not set out in 26 V.S.A. ch. 106. OPR-regulated registrations fall under the general OPR rule (3 V.S.A. 127(d)) for a registration expired no more than one biennial period: reinstatement within 30 days of expiration carries a $100 penalty; after 30 days the penalty equals the renewal fee plus about $40 for each additional month or fraction (capped at about $1,500), plus the renewal fee. Penalty relief is possible only for exceptional circumstances or extreme hardship.
- Grace period
- No grace period stated; registration is expired after the expiration date and work requiring registration may not be contracted. Renewal opens 6 weeks before expiration.
- Insurance
- Minimum general liability $1,000,000 per occurrence and $2,000,000 aggregate; certificate of insurance uploaded with initial and each biennial renewal. Written contract required for jobs of $10,000+.
