Show the details (amounts are approximate)
A license may be renewed up to one year after the original renewal date with the late fee, once the CE requirement is met. A license expired longer than one year cannot be renewed: the former holder must make an initial application and retest (OAC 158:40-9-3(c)). An inactive contractor license costs the same fee and needs no bond or insurance.
Fees change. Check the official site for the exact amount.
Why approximate?
Boards change fees often and some charge extra processing fees. We show a recent amount so you can plan.
- Bond
- Required: $5,000. Verify the amount with the board.
- Insurance
- Active contractor: $5,000 continuous corporate surety bond payable to CIB (plumbing also allows cash/CD of $5,000), and certificate of general liability of at least $50,000 with CIB as certificate holder (not additional insured); lapse makes license inactive. Electrical contractors must also provide workers' compensation proof (or exemption paperwork) at initial approval and renewal (Titles 85/85A).
- Reciprocity
- Reciprocity only with states that have a written reciprocity agreement with CIB and substantially equivalent exam/experience/CE; licensee must have held license at least 1 year in good standing.
Notes
Pay online by credit card or ACH through the CIB payment portal, or mail a check or money order with the renewal form to CIB, 2401 NW 23rd St, Suite 2F, Oklahoma City, OK 73107. The renewal form says to send the form even when paying online, while the portal page says no paperwork beyond the online application is needed; CE and insurance proof must still be on file. Contractor license holder may elect to renew as journeyman (permanent category change). Many Oklahoma cities also require local registration. Alarm endorsement renewal is an extra $25 (electrical only). Electrical rules effective 07/11/2026.
