Notes

New Jersey has no state roofing license; roofers doing residential or noncommercial home improvement must register annually as a home improvement contractor business (Contractors Business Registration Act, N.J.S.A. 56:8-136 et seq.). Registration is not a trade-competency license. The Home Improvement and Home Elevation Contractor Licensing Act (P.L. 2023 c.237, N.J.S.A. 45:5AAA-1) created a State Board and will replace registration with individual licensing six months after the Board adopts its rules; until then registrations are renewed as before. Renewal is $90 per year, online only. Division phone (973) 424-8150.
